Depends on the time frame under consideration - most of us have very short term memories and the US $ has been the reserve currency of the world for most people around the world.

The more relevant question is - when will US citizens lose faith in the value of the US $ as a store of value?

Normalcy bias is ever present - especially in the financial world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normalcy_bias

Yes Yuan - at least that the view of the head of a think tank, Martin Jacques, and author of When China Rules the World. He offers quite compelling reasons.

I read the book. I thought the title over-promised and under-delivered. Either I am too dumb to get his case, or he didn't build a compelling case to support his thesis of 'China rule the world'.

He failed to consider critical issues such as water, oil and resource shortages in China, and how the current level of military strength is not enough to secure the free passage of those resources into China from abroad.

Anyway, I classify him as a 自费五毛

Well I have been reading that the next Currency up for Destruction will be the Special Drawing Rights.

But I do not forecast anything gradual about this collapse.

It will overtake most without a warning. Collapses of structures seem to happen rapidly if not instantaneously.

However to the astute observer the corrosions and stress cracking are ever present and growing. It is an EXPONENTIAL phenomena.

Physics and Economics are related. The weakening of the US Dollar has been gradual. But it has been growing Exponentially. When it goes it will be a World Shattering event.

The problem is that the US Dollar is the World Reserve Currency. That means that Foreign Central Banks actually use US Dollars as their Reserves when calculating the Fractional Reserves that they can lend out. When the US Dollar goes it will take out any currency that uses the US Dollar as a base for reserve requirements.

When the US Dollar goes then all Fiat Currencies will be taken out...at once.

There will be no gradual change.

That is the reason that the results of this Poll are urgent information that needs to be known as the Confidence in the US Dollar is what maintains the value.

Oil is beginning to slip away as the backing of the US Dollar. Countries are making trade agreement that no longer require US Dollars.

that is one reason many of us continue to reallocate our fiat into physical.. because the end might come sooner than expected.

and when even a whim of it gets out, poor guys like us will not have alot of chance picking up the needed metals..
